Mount Hotham

Mount Hotham is one of our favourite locations to run Howling Huskys sled dog tours. Just 4.5 hours from Melbourne, it’s where you can jump into a sled and glide through snowy alpine trails with our incredible team of huskies. Set against stunning snow gum scenery, Hotham offers the perfect setting for an unforgettable husky experience - whether you're here for a ride, to meet the dogs, or simply soak up the winter magic.

Please Note: There is a combined weight limit of 160kg for all sled tours.

Please note: Our tours are run as informative, enjoyable and scenic activities. Although our dogs are amazing at what they do, we train them as freight-pulling dogs - not racing dogs. This means they’re extremely fit and extremely strong, but not extremely fast. We DO NOT offer adrenaline rides.

Polar Paws Express 30 Minutes

Come jump in a sled with a team of Howling Huskys for a thrilling ride through the snow-covered trails of Mount Hotham! Guided by one of our experienced mushers and powered by a team of roughly eight huskies, this adventure offers a true taste of sled dog life in the Victorian High Country.

This tour includes approximately 15–20 minutes of sled time, followed by 10–15 minutes of pat 'n' play with the dogs - perfect for capturing photos and making memories.

Stumpy Tailed Trail
1 Hour 15 Minutes

Feel the thrill as you're whisked through a winter wonderland on our scenic looped trails. With breathtaking alpine views, winding paths through iconic snow gums, and the crisp mountain air, this experience is packed with magic at every turn.

Our enthusiastic team of sled dogs will lead the way as your musher shares insights into the history of dog sledding, the lineage of our huskies, and the incredible connection between human and canine. If you're feeling bold, your musher might even hand over the reins for a taste of what it's like to drive the sled yourself!

To wrap up your tour, enjoy a heartwarming pat 'n' play session with the huskies—perfect for capturing memories and saying thank you to your new furry friends.

This tour runs for approximately 1 hour, including 45 minutes of sled ride time followed by 15 minutes of husky cuddles and photo time.

Snowy Pups Family Tour 1 hour 15 minutes

Hear the excitement of the dogs build as they get ready to take you (and your family) exploring around Mount Hotham! Jump in the sled and learn about the team of Howling Huskys you have running with you, as our experienced musher educates you on the history and tradition of sled dogs. Along the way, take in the amazing scenery and then complete your tour with cuddles, pats and lots of photos.

This tour comprises of 2 separate rides, one after another for 1 adult and 1 child at a time. Includes around 15/20 mins per sled ride followed with family pictures and 10/15 mins pat 'n' play at the end.

Pat ‘n’ Play 20 Minutes

Sled Dog rides are not always for everyone but coming and meeting the team can be a whole lot of fun on its own.

THIS IS INCLUDED IN ALL TOUR BOOKINGS. IF YOU BOOK A TOUR THERE IS NO NEED TO BOOK THIS.

Come down to our Husky Shop and meet the team! Whether they’re hanging around waiting for their turn to run or relaxing after a big adventure, our dogs love attention. Some are playful and cheeky, while others are irresistibly cuddly.

When you visit, you’ll be introduced to the team and are welcome to take photos along the way. Depending on the day’s sled bookings, you may see up to 30 dogs at a time!

Kids aged 3 and under are free but must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Please note: If snow conditions are low at Mount Hotham, your tour may run on a four-wheeled cart instead of a sled at Dinner Plain. We’ll notify you ahead of time and offer the option to go ahead with the cart tour or reschedule later in the 2025 season. If you choose not to participate, no refund will be issued. However, if rescheduling isn’t possible and we can’t accommodate your preferred date, a gift voucher (valid for 3 years) will be issued. For more details, please refer to our terms and conditions.
