Mount Baw Baw is home to some of our most popular sled dog tours at Howling Huskys. Just 2.5 hours from Melbourne, it’s the ideal spot for families and first-timers to meet our incredible huskies, enjoy a scenic sled ride, or experience something extra like our dingo encounters or snowshoe tours. With winding alpine trails and a cosy, welcoming vibe, Mount Baw Baw is the perfect place to connect with the dogs and enjoy a snowy adventure you'll never forget.

Please Note: There is a combined weight limit of 160kg per sled for all sled tours.

Please note: Our tours are run as informative, enjoyable and scenic activities. Although our dogs are amazing at what they do, we train them as freight-pulling dogs - not racing dogs. This means they’re extremely fit and extremely strong, but not extremely fast. We DO NOT offer adrenaline rides.

Sled Dog Dash
30 Minutes

Come jump in a sled with a team of Howling Huskys for a tour you'll never forget! Named after the Mount Baw Baw Dog Sled Dash race, this tour will take you for a dash around the Latrobe trail with one of our experienced mushers and a team of roughly eight huskies.

This tour includes around 15/20 mins per sled ride followed with roughly 10/15 mins pat 'n' play at the end.

Stumpy Tailed Trail
1 Hour 15 Minutes

Get ready for a tail wagging good time as you find magic around every corner on the looped trails of Mount Baw Baw. The dog's excitement is contagious as you dash through the snow, so snuggle up and get ready to learn all about the history of the sport, linage of the dogs and the ultimate bond between man and their best friends.

Journey upwards to discover remarkable views of untouched beauty then under archways of painted snow gums.

If you’re feeling brave your experienced musher will let you have a go at driving! Our dogs are sure to make memories so finish the tour off with a pat and play to say thank you.
This tour is roughly 1 hour which includes around 45mins sled ride time and then followed with around 15 mins pat 'n’ play time with our huskies.

Summit Sunset Tour
1 hour 15 minutes

As the sun begins to set, snuggle into the sled and let our team of Howling Huskys take you on an unforgettable journey to the summit of Mt. Baw Baw. This one-of-a-kind experience will have you gliding through snow-covered trails, pulled by a powerful team of sled dogs as they make the exhilarating climb toward breathtaking alpine views.

At the summit, take a moment to meet the dogs and soak in the stunning panorama of Baw Baw National Park. Learn about the history of dogsledding, the incredible bond between musher and dog, and why these huskies love what they do.

Your adventure continues to a spectacular lookout point, where your musher will share fascinating local insights before leaving you to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or hot chocolate as the sun dips below the mountains. And of course, your team of Howling Huskys will be right behind you, taking in the view alongside you.

Spirit Of A Sled Dog Tour
3/4 hours

Immerse yourself in the heart of the snow with our spirit of a sled dog tour, a truly unforgettable experience. Spend 3 to 4 hours out on the trail, gliding through the snow-covered wilderness behind a team of 8 to 10 incredible huskies.

You'll have the unique opportunity to take the reins and drive the sled yourself, guided by our experienced team. Along the way, we'll stop off to enjoy a cozy campfire and lunch, take in stunning summit views, and explore untouched areas of baw baw that few ever get to see.

This tour is between 3-4 hours followed with roughly 10/15 mins pat 'n' play at the end.

Powder Pup Snowshoe Tour
30 Minutes

Step into the snow and experience the joy of walking a retired sled dog through the winter landscape. Strap on a pair of snowshoes and take a walk, with your four-legged companion leading the way.

Each dog is attached to you with a waist belt, allowing for a hands-free and comfortable walk. One of our experienced guides will accompany you, ensuring both you and the dog enjoy the journey safely.

This is a perfect experience for dog lovers looking for a unique way to connect with a retired sled dog while taking in the stunning alpine scenery.

This experience is roughly 30 minutes

Please Note - Adults ONLY (age 16 years +). Children can accompany an adult but cannot walk a dog.

Pat ‘n’ Play 20 Minutes

Sled Dog rides are not always for everyone but coming and meeting the team can be a whole lot of fun on its own.

THIS IS INCLUDED IN ALL TOUR BOOKINGS. IF YOU BOOK A TOUR THERE IS NO NEED TO BOOK THIS.

Come down to our Husky Shop and meet the team! Whether they’re hanging around waiting for their turn to run or relaxing after a big adventure, our dogs love attention. Some are playful and cheeky, while others are irresistibly cuddly.

When you visit, you’ll be introduced to the team and are welcome to take photos along the way. Depending on the day’s sled bookings, you may see up to 30 dogs at a time!

Kids aged 3 and under are free but must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Please note: If snow conditions are low at Mount Baw Baw, your tour may run on a four-wheeled cart instead of a sled. We’ll notify you ahead of time and offer the option to go ahead with the cart tour or reschedule later in the 2025 season. If you choose not to participate, no refund will be issued. However, if rescheduling isn’t possible and we can’t accommodate your preferred date, a gift voucher (valid for 3 years) will be issued. For more details, please refer to our terms and conditions.
