Musher for a day

Howling Huskys Self Drive Tour

Howling Huskys are extremely excited to offer a brand new experience in Dinner Plain.

While we believe all our tours have their own kind of magic about them, there is no tour in Australia quite like this..

Come for a half day experience and learn to and then actually drive your own team of Howling Huskys

It starts early morning where we introduce the teams to you and show you how to harness them up, we explain all the equipment and how it all works and go through all our safety practices for you, the dogs and the public

Then it's time to hook up a team and head out for a basket ride, for this part of the tour you sit in the basket of the sled and your guide shows you how the commands work and more on the safety and equipment.

We then get you running tandem with your guide on the runners behind the sled.

So basically the morning is spent hands on learning the basic ins and outs of running a sled dog team, then we head out the back country away from the village and the people to enjoy some peaceful trails to ourselves.

This is where the real thrill begins, your guide will split the team up into smaller teams hooked to individual sleds and then you head out on your own team following your guide on their team to run the trails and control your own team of Howling Huskys.

We do a short run then pull up at our fire pit and kick back taking all the morning thrills in while we enjoy a hot chocolate and a camp fire lunch. But this doesn't last to long because those huskies love to run not sit, so before you know it we are jumping back on the sleds and heading out for another run before turning around and heading back to our shop to give your team some much deserved cuddles and treats!

This tour is only available mid week and it is a must to pre book with us, as spaces are very limited and due to the logistics of this tour we need to know well in advance.

While you don't need to be anything near a marathon runner, a reasonable level of fitness is needed for this tour.

$1500 per sled driver

$350 for a basket rider

For 2 people you can choose this option and swap driving and basket riding.

2 sled drivers and 2 basket riders available per tour.
